I'm Thankful Poem by Lora Colon

I'm Thankful

Rating: 5.0

When darkness obscures day, I'm thankful,
I need no light to shine on this place
Where long ago I buried dead dreams,
A safe harbor for my tear-stained face

When rain falls upon me, I'm thankful,
My tears will be mistaken for rain,
I can look straight up into Heaven
And not even God could guess my pain

When stormy nights rage on, I'm thankful,
I pretend I'm crying out of fear,
No one could guess my heart's deep sorrow,
Should my cries reach an uncaring ear

When rivers freeze over, I'm thankful,
I welcome blizzards of swirling snow,
I want no visitors to find me
Crying for him...... they've no need to know

For hours that pass swiftly, I'm thankful,
They say time will heal a broken heart,
Days and weeks turn into months and years,
But I've yet to feel the healing start

Some feelings are numb, and I'm thankful,
I no longer laugh at funny things,
Yet, memories stir some emotions,
Causing the heartaches loneliness brings

When sleep overtakes me, I'm thankful,
Escape from reality awaits,
I close my eyes, then love takes my hand,
Together, we walk through Heaven's gates

And I'm thankful to find you still expressing your feelings in Poetry Lora, though I would really love for you to find the love that you seem to be missing for so long. Though this poem is filled with irony and references to your suffering alone, I can only suggest that you do have friends here who wish you well and pray for brighter days, even if it is only pizza and beer with Bri Edwards and I.: -)
