'I Love You' Were The Last Words She Ever Said To Me. Poem by Leah Michele

'I Love You' Were The Last Words She Ever Said To Me.

As his wife lies on the hospital bed, he sits by her side, holding her hand, and watching her sleep. He knows she doesn't have long to live, so he sits with her, to the end, like he promised. She awakens with tears in her eyes. 'I love you, ' she says. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep... She's dead.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a week before our 3 year anniversary, and we were having some problems. Her family wanted to move half way across the world and wouldn't let her stay. We were constantly getting into fights and we were both questioning if we should stay together. One morning she called; it was about 10: 30. We fought, once again, but this time she broke up with me. As I went to hang up she whimpered out 'I love you.' I cried myself to sleep that night. The next morning when I checked the mail there was only one letter. It was from her...
I read it and broke down crying. It was a suicide note:
By the time you read this it will be too late. I am already gone. Yesterday I broke up with you, then told you I love you. I didn't want to break up with you but I had no choice; I had to set you free from me. I was supposed to move tomorrow, first thing in the morning. I would have no time to say goodbye nor would i want to...
Of all days, my parents pick to move, they choose our anniversary. I hate them! I love you with all of my heart and I always will. I want you to move on and be happy without me... just promise me you'll always keep me in your heart. I couldn't stand the thought of living without you and now I won't. I know I'm jumping from one thing to another but all I really want you to know is I LOVE YOU!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
These are not poems. They are really short stories I guess you can say. I was given a line to write about and I came up with these. The line I was given is the title.
