I Love You Poem by Muriel Ruth Emerson

I Love You

A dark shadow stands in the darkness
I feel the cold breath of death
Shortly upon me
The room went gloomy
Dark even
Shadowy in the blink of an eye
I can not see this shadow
Or make what is making it
I wish the hunter would just strike
But I can tell it is waiting
Waiting for his prey to make the wrong move
Stepping silently into the night
This will be my last moment
What is the last thing running through my mind?
My regrets
My pains
Or will it be my happy thoughts
My nieces
My sister
My mother
My father
Then a cold breath sweeps across my forehead
It was a cold kiss
I open my eyes to see a large man standing before me
I try to wrap my hands around
But they just fall through
"I can't stay long
I'm proud of you
And I love you"
The shadow says before returning into the night
Before I can say I love you too
Dad
