I Lost My Heart To Her Poem by Juan Olivarez

The land looked so strange to me,
Mountains circling all around.
And burning sands, far as you could see,
There was no fertile ground.

How is it then, I love it so,
I've found this to be true.
It broke my heart when I had to go,
I guess on me it grew.

My heart is back, in those lonely arid lands,
And it refuses all my pleas.
It stayed in the Mojave's desert sands,
I lost it there you see.
