I Learned To Love Poem by Juan Olivarez

I Learned To Love

I learned to love, as a young man,
With hot blood racing in my veins.
Holding my heart out in my hand,
A wild stallion without reins.

I chased sweet love, just like the wind,
Rustling leaves as I flew by.
Back when I as young my friend,
Like an eagle in the sky.

But when I caught true love one day,
It was an unexpected thing.
The actors all had left the play,
The king was dead, long live the king.
