I Hear The Blackbird Singing Poem by Francis Duggan

I Hear The Blackbird Singing

I hear the blackbird singing in the warm sun of the day
His voice to me familiar it takes me far away
To distant woods and hedgerows scenting of the blooms of May
The memories of what used to be with us our lifetime stay.

A warm day in September in the Australian Spring
So wonderful again to hear the glossy blackbird sing
It is his breeding Season to sing he is not shy
In a leafy bush in her nest his mate sits on her eggs from where he sings nearby.

'Tis not for love of song he sing those who know of Nature say
But as a warning to other male blackbirds from his borders to keep away
His song to me seems pleasant so beautiful to hear
But to his own kind it would seem it is a thing to fear.

Mother Nature wears her greenery and the sun shines in the sky
And above the lush green paddock the dark winged swallows fly
And the honeyeaters chirping on the blossom laden trees
And the blackbird's voice is carrying in the warm and freshening breeze.

Blackbird song I can hear as someone sings, and see the swirl above as it waves its blackened wings And in fields of maze skimming over with with my palm, I listen to the blackbird sound its sweet alarm.... .....Thanks Francis....this poem is one that every word was experienced in my minds eye, all my senses are in as well. Even squinting my eyes from the sun looking up....artfully written.
