I Have Too Much Grief In Me Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Have Too Much Grief In Me

I HAVE TOO MUCH GRIEF IN ME

I have too much grief in me
To give my life to the sublime
Were I younger perhaps
Heights and depths and mysteries
Hidden meanings and sudden waves of energy
Might have in endless ambiguity charmed me more
But I am old
And I have lost too many
And many I know are on the edge
Grief should not be anyone’s life poem
And I pray it is not mine
But Grief is still
Too much of my own mind now.
