I Have Hope Poem by venessa ambrose

I Have Hope

Piece of silver and gold have I not
But I have hope
Though I stroll with my tattered bag
Holding the faded chains I call a watch
Kissing the soil with the sole of my laboured bata(slippers)
I still kept the hope
My tanned hairs may have seen no white comb
To savor its dreading state of long dreads
Neither does my flesh own a fiber to call its own
See the sours on its infested layer
The roaming flies clamoring for a feast of the flesh
I seem to possess nothing to you
Than my depreciated agony of a life
But I know I am more than you can think
I believe the sky would win the battle against the clouds
The night would disappear for the light has graced its path
The forest must bow at the bellowing of the tractor
My decayed bata(slippers) would visit the royal palace
Even that gathering storm will welcome the sun
I have hope
I have hopes that look beyond today's wares
A hope that envy the unseen tomorrow
While waiting in eager anticipation for its unannounced arrival
When I the man of today
Would be worshiped as a god of my womb
Dancing with those who earlier despised the taste of my name
I have nothing in today's land
But I have hope
If I lose that, then I loss all
