I Do Not Receive Poem by Almira Bausley

I Do Not Receive

I do not receive testimony from man
on what my life should be
for it was man who trod me under foot
and lost all hope on me
when the world had counted me out
and given me up for dead
there was none but you to raise me up
placing me back in my stead

I do not receive testimony from man
on the person I should be
for here I am this broken vessel
just as you created me
the weak and marred parts
my mold contains
are infused with your strength

I do not receive testimony from man
on how I should feel
or what I should think
for when my mournful cries
raged from the grave
none but you heard me
and just being in your presence
gives me peace
for your thoughts are ever towards me

I do not receive testimony from man
on how I should raise my posterity
for your wisdom has guided me through my youth
and I trust that your light
as a beacon
will help me to guide them too

you see I no longer receive testimony from man
because it hasn't helped me out before
and my gratitude will always be to my Lord
its because of him that I am here
not man
with my own testimony
on which I stand.
