I Can’t Go Home Poem by trebor reyd

I Can’t Go Home

Downtown
Canal Street
Backbeat to the rhythm
And blues
Tell you where you got them shoes
On your feet man
Bourbon Street man
Take a seat man
For the greatest show on Earth
Parading to the sounds of
Gunshots ringing
Out of time
Second in line
For last place
Try to face
The music that plays
In my head
Dirge for the dead
I quit trying
Satchmo’s soul crying
400 dying for years
As tears flood the city
That’s rotten
From the Corps
Forgotten once more
To care
