I Bid Thee Sweet Farewell Poem by Olivia Slemmermann

I Bid Thee Sweet Farewell

Oh my heart whatever be
You have wooed and selected only me
Thy rhyme and song so tender be
Yet how can I accept thee

It’s against my every code and grain
To entertain such thoughts so vain
And wish that it’s just a dream for me
Not in actual reality

So my heart whatever be
Go on wooing but never me
I’m bound to one for all eternity
And wed to another whose faith in me
Will not allow such fantasy

You may claim that its pure destiny
That our paths have met and souls unite
What can I say to you my friend?
That it will never be just the same to me

How can I even hope in vain it be
A momentous notion of destiny
So then my heart whatever be
I do admire your immense desire

But don’t judge me wrong for the truth in me
To wish you well for now and ever
I bid thee sweet farewell and free
From my heart whatever be
