I Am Me Poem by josiah houk

I Am Me

I am not the person you expected me to be
I wonder if you will ever be proud
I hear what you say when I leave
I see the disappointment in your eyes
I want to show you I can
I am not the person you expected me to be

I pretend I am happy
I feel empty in your place
I touch your footsteps with a motionless stead
I worry what you think
I cry for what you think of me
I am not who you expected me to be

I understand I fell short of your horizon
I say I tried my best
I dream of the day I make you proud
I try to climb to your seat
I hope I don’t remain in your shadow
I am not who you expected me to be
