I Am A Straw Part 2 Poem by Mason Maestro

I Am A Straw Part 2

We stood firm- there was nothing stopping us now
Not even the determination of a hungry cow
Was it courage? Was it fate? Was it some cosmic mandate?
No. We were Straw. It's what WE create
I know my role now. Against the grain I will go
About the others, I do not know
As for myself, I'll bring up my own crop
A following by the hop, that no one will stop

Before long it had returned, walking our way
With what motive, I cannot say
It seemed to be searching, probing our land
With what looked like a blade in hand
It was collecting us survivors- the entire crew
For reasons unclear, but one thing is true...
This is my ticket, my escape from these roots
My road lies ahead, a brighter path that suits

We were removed from this place
Lifted clean, lifted high, take this past from my face
We entered this dwelling as we rode in a bin
But there's something familliar that we smelt from within
An unpleasant scent made us tremble with fear
Our loved ones were turned into bread loaves and beer
Our nemesis Oats shared the same destiny
Rolled into hotmeal- that made us merry
Much more amusing, Canola turned to oil
Thrown into a pot and brought to a boil
But we were Straw! Please pardon the pun
We were placed in a vase, in a pool, in the sun
