I Am A Child Poem by Andile Mthembu

I Am A Child

When i am on top of the tree i will feel free,
And yes, when i am on top of the tree i will fall free.
Born to be wild, born to be mild,
I don't mind because i am a child.

I am prone to all fears,
Because i'm still wet behind the ears.
Don't do this, don't do that is all i hears,
I am sentenced to this for unknown years.

My needs are attended to efficiently,
My sins and crimes are punished leniently.
Understandably because i do not know,
What is right and what is wrong, i'm only a child.

I am a child only when i'm planned and wanted,
For i bring joy to the deserving parents.
To the deserting parents i bring burden,
And yes i bring sorrow and nightmares.

They say the good die young,
And i will take mine with a smile.
My thoughts and actions are always childish,
For i am a child, to the one and only Almighty!
