Humility Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

Humility

We are just speckles in the cloud
Unseen and unrecognized in the crowd;
Yet of our human form we are proud
And proclaim our lofty airs aloud.

Wealth we make for our journey’s need;
It will not last to serve our greed;
It will desert its master the way it came
To get enslaved to it is a perpetual shame.

Youthful vigor, power and strength
Are set to fade and wither at length;
Time consumes our vitals like fire
The woods, to languish like a smoldering ire.

Self is our ego bloated by pelf
An illusion borne of our station
To treat the lesser souls with derision
And many swayed to act on our behalf.

Humility is the noblest human trait;
To know a lot yet to assume not,
To help a lot, for self it is naught,
To give a lot and remember it not
