Rating: 4.3

HOWRAH BRIDGE-
A PASSAGE TO HEAVEN
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Splendor of beauty lies with nature;
And so with wonderful Howrah Bridge,
Strolling on this grandeur, brings forth
Immeasurable joys to our eyes.
Up above shining clean and sunny skies;
Seems far away from heavenly skies,
When you are over and within the soul of the bridge,
And not far from madding crowd,

Thronged by millions of pilgrims everyday:
Filling the air with strange sounds of shouting souls,
And with sounds of buses, cars and lorries,
And motorboats and ships………..
Creating a universe of sounds and sounds only,
Seemingly troubling Gods in heavens up above,
Hanging in air and held firmly by thy hands,
Pilgrims thou blessed a safe passage to heaven over thy bridge.

Down below flowing the holy Ganges,
Mystical, divine, eternal and purest ever,
Flowing through forests, farms, towns and villages,
And streaming through our nerves, our senses,
And our lives and our deaths,
And a clear flow of pure, crystal and wandering soul,
Racing towards the infinite,

Upon thy holy lap,
Sprang up the eternal Howrah Bridge,
And upon thy holy lap,
Springs up many a bridge,
Opening up passages to Heaven….!

A poem on a Bridge(named Howrah) that always fascinates me, touches me, hugs me......whenever I come to Kolkata, I spend some time over the bridge and love to be lost with its grandeur and beauty and sea of crowds, humanity and everything my soul seeks to dwell in....an inspiration to me indeed! Many many thanks.........Suman............I am very much obliged.................

What an ink! Dear Poet........... Everyday I cross Howrah Bridge in my way to office. But... bus, taxi, tram, daily hawkers, lakhs of daily office goers and crowded strand road, bara bazar, .....polluted muddy yet holly Ganga river under Howrah Bridge..............these scenes first appear before my eyes. In busy schedule of life, I hardly get time to gaze at the beauty of such man-made passage, which has been carrying our load over the years! .............wonderfully expressed with beautiful words.............liked it.
