How Sheep Can Stray Poem by Michael P. Johnson

How Sheep Can Stray

What makes a sheep from Christ to stray?
What causes sheep to fall?
What makes them rise and walk away?
Or run from stall to stall?

Some wander through a lack of meat
They seek The Father’s will
They come to sit at Jesus’ feet
But fail to get their fill

For some it comes from lasting drought
Although The Well is deep
There’s no one near to quench their doubt
And wake them from their sleep

Some seek too high or fall so low
Some fail to see The Light
They don’t know if to come or go
Or what they do is right

Some wander when they’ve nought to do
Through talents Jesus gives
And so they seek for places new
Where freedom truly lives

Where all in Christ are classed the same
Where all may serve as planned
Where all can raise their Saviour’s name
And share the work at hand

A busy sheep’s a happy sheep
Idol they’ll play the fool
So while the fields are ripe to reap
We all should be a tool

Reveal the world God’s everywhere
Through Jesus Christ His Son
The work He gives for all to share
Is not just meant for one
