'Horse' Of The Sea Poem by Ima Ryma

'Horse' Of The Sea

Why did we get named the sea horse?
Our head and neck look equine
To name game humans, so of course
We go with it, or humans whine.
But now humans are catching on
That our head shape is made so
We can better pivot upon
Unsuspecting prey, doncha know!
And then just like a vacuum hose,
Mouth swinging and sucking sea food,
Down, down to digest - thar it goes,
Caught up in the moment and mood.

Call us sea horses, we don't fuss,
But just don't try to saddle us.
