Homophones Poem by Victor Cruickshank

Homophones

Words are said, but others are heard
When quote is said, note is heard
When plait is said, plate is heard
Some words are different but sound the same
Those words should be in the book of fame
Made only of words that sound the same
When someone says I have seen the scene
You say it is just a senseless repetition
When he tells you to sign here
You ask, Is it a petition?
Words like sea and see and in and inn
And words like right and rite and write and wright
And words like shown and shone
Are what we call the homophones.
