Home Poem by Susan Oxford

Home

The road meanders like a familiar song
taking me back to where I belong.
For months I have felt so alone,
at last, for good, I'm going home.

Too long I've been so far away
now I'm called home, I'm here to stay.
Sorrows of the life I've left behind
will be buried deep, purged from my mind.

Ahead through the trees I begin to see
a glimpse of the land that is dear to me.
From the road I turn down a gravel lane,
a rush of nostalgia -I am home again.

The land around me has returned to the wild
but still holds the magic I knew as a child.
I walk to the spot that held my heart,
to where memories started, and I will depart.

I lay down in the grass, breathe its smell,
sorrows float away, all will be well.
Never again will I feel alone,
at last, for good, I have come home.
