Holes

Rating: 4.5

I dig Holes all day
5 feet wide and 5 feet deep
Under the hot sun.
Digging in the hard earth
Each time I dig out the hole
My Hands give me pain.
Blisters shock my body
When the spade digs the dry earth
Sweat cool on my back.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is what the juveniles at Camp Greenlake had to do, day after day in the book holes. I was thinking about how the juveniles would feel, digging in the hot sun.
