Hoggy The Cop Poem by Vera Sidhwa

Hoggy The Cop

Hoggy the cop, was a very nice guy
Till the riot broke out in 1972...
They tell me he beat up some hippie
But I wasn't there to testify.

Well, I always thought that cops were nice,
Till the riot that broke out in 1972...
They tell me Hoggy beat up some hippie
But I wasn't there to testify.

One day I was walking along a street
And I met this cop.
Well I asked him what his name was
And guess what he said?
He said 'My name is Hoggy, and I'm a
Very nice cop.'

Well I didn't believe him and I told him off,
I told him about the riot of 1972...
Well he told me I wasn't there to testify,
So how could I know
That he was really a bad guy.

I told Hoggy, I didn't really believe
What my friends always told me,
But I was supposed to be a hippie
And alwasy against cops
Whether they were nice or bad..
I told that to Hoggy.

Well Hoggy felt bad about that, He said nowadays
We need individuality and I agreed...
We both smiled a secret smile,
And bade each other good-bye,
And I always told everyone after that
Hoggy the cop was a very nice guy
Till the riot broke out in 1972...
But I wasn't there to testify.
