History, Frightening Nightmare Or Beautiful Dream? Poem by Ali Rahimi

History, Frightening Nightmare Or Beautiful Dream?

History is the record of important events,
History is dung, history is manure,
Distorted triumph and failure,
It's told by the victors,
Decorated by lies of winners,
Swallowed by miserable losers,
Immigrants, revolutionaries, prisoners,
Followed by devoted believers,
History is friendly to those who write it,
It breeds habits, easy inertia,
It's the music, with the same tone, rhythm,
Just played by different musicians,
Orchestrated by charming politicians,
It's a garment dyed by the colour of charisma,
Scars, hugs, kisses, loves, tears and laughter,
History, frightening nightmare or beautiful dream?
Narratives create illusions of inevitability,
Mirage of human perfect ability,
Fables of man's grandeur and infallibility,
We are all intoxicated by our amazing history,
In love with fate, our destiny,
We have orgasms on history, it's our aphrodisiac beauty,
Its curves, shining skin, maddening legs, lush lips,
Dream of our past greatness and glory, ,
Hallucinations of a deceived mentality,
Why are we trapped again and again?
Destined to repeat same tragic mistakes?
Nonsensical stories shape our worldviews,
Our future expectations,
We consistently fool ourselves, to believe in
The baseless accounts of the past,
We like ease of thought, patterns and coherence,
We love events, gossips, yellow magazines,
Human mind hates ‘'nonevents'', ‘' nongossips'',
We have an effective power to deceive ourselves,
An infinite competency to ignore our ignorance,
We pretend to know it all, everything is knowable,
History teaches us one lesson :
It can not teach us any lesson,
We simply do not learn,
History, frightening nightmare or beautiful dream?
History seduces,
History convinces,
History coerces,
History entices,
Julius Caesar once said: I came, I saw, I conquered,
Mark Twains' history as fluid prejudice,
Or maybe written by lovers at night,
Under moonlight,
Forgotten in the morning, or a dizzy hangover,
History, frightening nightmare or beautiful dream?
