His Own Man Poem by Lee Crowell

His Own Man

Rating: 5.0

my heart has its own little anus
just to let the broken pieces out
it helps maintain my independence
from everything close to me
gone is my need for affection
I can look disloyalty straight in the eye
I am immune from the darkest betrayal
and I can bounce deception on my knee
like a child

but this condition
my medical miracle
comes at an expense
a waste management burden
for the other organs to bear
and of course there are symptoms
chest pains
an empty bed
sudden outbursts of crying
an unused pillow
dinner for one
and my skin is turning yellow
the doctor is concerned for my liver
and doubtful that independence alone
can sustain me

Independence is the worst pain of all, for I alone will comprehend!
