Highlander Poem by Viktor Krivulin

Highlander

none shall keep the head in the clouds above the balkans
with impunity — even for two
the earth is not enough, and for a single person
it is indeed like a drop in the bucket —
this entire world with its clouds and its dogs
running wild in those villages
which humans left behind
having sent none in replacement

Translated from Russian by Dmitry Kuzmin with Olga Shvarova
