Hey: Loosen Up! Poem by Alex Hamilton

Hey: Loosen Up!

Moaning, moody messenger of misery,
You are as humourless as I am hairless.
I want released from your burden, my sister:
Can you remind me why I love you?

Today I walked in the park.
The cherry blossom bloomed as you once did
But now you are rough and bulbous
Like the London Plane.
The moorhen swam in the pond,
Its bright red beak beautiful – unlike yours.
The kids played as the Frisbees flew;
The skateboarders risked as the lovers smooched,
All seeking joy

Then my juvenated senior friend
Went with me to the theatre.
We admired, were provoked and laughed.
Sweet laughter:
Overcoming the challenges we have shared and defeated.

Please understand:
Our world is wonderful.
Like my lymph cells, happiness can multiply and spread,
And take over the whole body –
Until the very end.
