Her Tinderbox Poem by Danton Neilson

Her Tinderbox

Old dusty cupboard with creaky door,
And footsteps keen across dirty floor,
To peer inside and take a look,
Then moving jars and kitchen book,
Reaching further still and finding clocks,
Then just behind...a tinderbox,
And memory leaping with utter joy,
Once given to her by smitten boy,
A gift he gave to prove his caring,
Great courage to show his boyish daring,
And love for her inside this box,
His heart the key to broken locks,
Held close to her it meant so much,
With woeful gaze and heartfelt touch,
The love still trapped so deep within,
With no escape its greatest sin,
To never see such light of day,
Or hitch a ride on moonlit ray,
Returned to cupboard and pushed behind,
To other things with hurried mind,
One last glance before closing door,
With footsteps keen across dirty floor,
And time would pass by those rusty clocks,
As love burned inside her tinderbox...
