Heart Of Ice. Poem by Maria Shaw

Heart Of Ice.

Her beauty was second to none
like a butterfly she flitted by
as man with a net did chase
hoping to capture her heart.

How she teased
she bought men to their knees
her heart of ice
none could thaw.

She hid behind the tallest walls
none could tear them down
many tried but failed
her heart of stone, imprisoned, alone.

How she longed for love
for someone to love who she was
but barriers were high
she needed much more than lustful eyes.

No one took the time to know her
men showered her with gifts
trying to bribe her affections
hoping for a kiss.

One day her heart of stone did break
tears she cried from frozen eyes
her heart of ice dissolved
an overwhelming feeling suddenly took control.

She sat looking out to sea
her tears washed away with the tide
a man sat down at her side
he asked her why do you cry.

He took her hand in his
and wiped the tears from her eyes
his gentle touch, his concern,
reached to her soul, much to her surprise.

She looked at him and smiled
through bloodshot tear filled eyes
and realized he was blind
he was genuinely caring, genuinely kind.

She watched the sun slowly fade from sight
and made a wish on a star so bright
the moon smiled approval with a cheesy grin
and they sat holding hands 'till the tide came in.
