He Bids Her Goodbye Poem by DAVID TERRY

He Bids Her Goodbye

He sees her from a distance
She who he used to know
As she begins a new dance
In which she’ll surely grow

From who she was when she was his
Into who she’ll become
And leave behind the love that is
What kept her back from some

It breaks his heart to realize that
She’s moving on because
She cannot stay and live life flat
To dwell in what once was

He made a choice and she made hers
They saw no other way
Though with each other they preferred
It could not be today

So with a smile he prays for her
As the new man takes her hand
His falling tears will pine for her
Where life takes him in this land
