Hatchling With Heart - Lincoln Park Zoo Poem by Ima Ryma

Hatchling With Heart - Lincoln Park Zoo

I was hatched at Lincoln Park Zoo,
A cinerous vulture chick that
Has a heart murmur. The folks knew,
Left my egg in the habitat,
Sounds harsh, but that is nature's way.
But humans like to intervene.
They incubated me okay,
Hand raised me when I came on scene.
A cardiologist will try
To fix my heart from going bad.
Meanwhile, I'm giving life a try,
Getting along with Mom and Dad.

Thanks for taking good care of me.
Pray for this bird of prey to be.
