Hardwar Poem by Shamik Kumar Bose

Hardwar

Hardwar
-

You never know what Ganges can mean to you
Water that can be so alluring inside
Like some unknown desires beginning to fulfill
Hardwar floats in that dream
Har-Ki-Pyari Ghat resonates in the evening
Prayers of thousands reverberate from the Himalayas
Candles float in water like lamps of souls in merry
In freedom
In this life!

Kankhal, Hrishikesh all alike
Like ancient sages in stupendous silence
Mediate in full heart
The breeze takes you down to a mesmerizing journey
As you walk, you will dream
As you dream, walking side by side
along the bank of the river
by the narrow lanes of the Temples
you reach a fountain
of water so sweet, so clear that a devil
vains to conspire
You beat him this time like the soothing sounds of Prayer
beat your all anxieties
You feel alone
You know how lovely can it be to be alone
You are alone for the first time
The sloping paths of the mountains invite you
You move up
Beneath the Ganges float in a girlish laughter
Beacon you to follow her as she hides sometimes
Like your daughter
You do not want to miss her
So you climb
You just climb.
