Hard On The Night Walls Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Hard On The Night Walls

Hard
Hard on the night walls
We struck and knocked
We knocked
Then
Seeing that the tower opened not
We shouted wildly
‘Ho! Open! Open! ’
But silence was and silence still
Remained.
That increased our desperation.
The more we knocked and shouted
The more silence
Stood.
Our misery grew cyclical.
And the night cheekily
Withdrew its dark cape first to a
Grey
And then to the white splendors of the Dawn
And we stopped knocking
And we stopped shouting.
