Happy Halloween Poem by Natarajan Ramaseshan

Happy Halloween

My dead tired body
Slumbered like a
Lifeless piece of lumber.

The two tethered hands
Of wall clock
Moving in tandem
Ticking away time
Slowly, surreptitiously and sullenly
Touched midnight.

Its sudden sepulchral sound
Striking a dozen times
Sent cold shivers down my
Strained spine.

All the ghosts, golems, goblins
Glued to my memory
Grew into gargantuan dimensions and
Danced before my distressed eyes.

The eerie howl of a distant wolf
Added supernatural spice
To the uncanny atmosphere.

Repeated knocks at my door
Rocked me and reduced me
Into a psychological human pulp.
Before going berserk with
Tearing trepidation
I jumped from bed and
Unbolted the door.

Oh, dear God....there...
A group of friends
Smiling and shouting
Wished me
