Happy Birthday Jesus Poem by Diana van den Berg

Happy Birthday Jesus

We’re having a wonderful Christmas Lord,
with gifts and love and eats and all.
St Monica’s gathers around once more
to celebrate your birthday as before.

You give to us so much each day -
bright sun, blue skies and fluffy clouds,
warm beds, good food and friends galore,
Your precious love and the best care-givers in the world.

What birthday gifts can we give you Lord?
So little you ask, so much you give.
So please accept our hearts, our praise, our plan
to make this world the best we can.

And we all join in with hearts and voice
to say, with love, as we rejoice,
and may it resound all over the earth,
“Happy Birthday, Jesus” on this day of your birth.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Precious Cele, one of the children in the Poetry Club I had at St Monica’s Children's Home, asked me for a Christmas poem because she was asked to write one and recite it at the Home on Christmas Day and she didn't have time because of exams. I couldn’t find one, so I wrote this for her.
