Hangin’ Out (And Moaning About It) Poem by David S Dennis

Hangin’ Out (And Moaning About It)

Rating: 2.3

Went down to the Jazz Club
To rip my soul with the Gypsy Boys
All I got was a boutique beer
And an ear full of two four noise
My flat old soul rolled out the door
Took a long walk took a loooong walk

Been wondering about it lately
How nothing seems like fun
Been hangin’ out for a happiness hit
But it just won’t come

Sashayed up to Miss Pearls
Cocked n primed n all cashed up
To see if one of them fancy girls
Would know some tricks to cheer me up

Rocked me rolled me honey ride
Up n down n side to side
And I’d like to say that I felt all right
But that’d be a lie

M’ flat old soul was empty
Like last nights bag ‘f wine
And it up n rolled right out the door
With a terrible case of petit mort
Never been quite so bla before
Took a long walk took a looong walk

Been wondering bout it lately
How nothing seems like fun
Been hangin out for a happiness hit
But … this aint the one

Wind was blowin’ the clouds around
So I went down to the bay
Rigged my six on m’ freestyle wave
And sailed away the day

I was blasting hopping carving gybes
And I tried a trick or two
But push tacks are elusive
And difficult things to do

An I tried n tried n tried n failed
Every single time
That’s just to be expected
When your stars are misaligned

God God God GOD
What is wrong with me
I’m so fed up with this sucky life
That I could bloody scream

Been wondering about it lately
Chief of my concerns
Been hangin out and miserable
Think I’ll go and eat worms

I’ll put some tragic music on
And then I’ll eat some worms

David this is sublime! A wonderful piece. The last line...sure takes me back. Nobody loves me, everybody hates me..... Your lighthearted spirit and your fine command of traditional verse combine to produce a blues song that deserves an Eric Bogle musical accompaniment. Congratulations. love, Allie xxxx
