Hangdog Cain Poem by Helgard du Preez

Hangdog Cain

In the reflection of my mortal sword
Behind the cold hearted steel
A netherworld awaits my soul
My shield the only rescue in my hope to find the Promised Land

Bathing naked in his undeserving blood
As I fed the blade into the heart of his utopian soil
My dirty hands cannot be undone
Time only ticks clockwise

I’m Houdini chained with no escape
Destined for the day of reckoning
As I watched the tiny creatures eating on his corpse
What have I done? ?

I deserve the worst conceivable penance, but instead
You embrace me with your undeserving grace
Seventy and sevenfold you’ve set me free
Thank you, I am truly blessed
