Hands Held Out For Holding Poem by David Harris

Hands Held Out For Holding

Rating: 5.0

The shadows of the night fall across everything
Candles flicker in the darkness
Awaiting the dawning hour
Everyone is yawning waiting sleeps approach
But I stand hands out for holding
And there is never anyone there

What happened in this vacant life
That turns everyone from me
What unkind words have I said
That makes everyone walk away
Maybe one day I’ll find the answer
Written on a stone tablet somewhere

In the meantime I stand here
Waiting for the flicker of morning’s light
Hands held out for holding
As night passes into day
Like a blind man awaiting someone
To show him the way

I do believe you can learn a lot about someone through their poetry, so thank you for sharing this David, I am learning more each day.

Dear David, did you get inside my head without me knowing? Another gut wrenching beauty.....I think that this is where hope has to come in and where one must get what they need from within their own heart, or what is left of it. Have to love ourselves and just 'hold on'. xo marci.
