Half Done Poem by Amitava Sur

Half Done

Rating: 4.6

Jolly well we two were painting some pictures
Butterfly, mountains, with some meadows and fountains.
With water colors, canvas, pencils, paints and brushes-
We two were painting our dreams and the wishes.

Suddenly, in between where had you fled?
Leaving the easel, paint and brush - all in astray!
The string of our life was torn and jittered
Many a painting were stained and completely littered.

A part of the paints were glued into the canvas
Rest was desolated in pellet with the brushes,
Easel, canvas, paints and brushes – they all were scattered
Leaving our dreams and wishes so badly shattered.

Left behind some memories only -
Of some golden split seconds,
Rest is all filled with sorrows, don’t know what to do.
How to give the finishing touch to make them alive?

Where had you left and gone, leaving everything half done
Alone I cannot paint the fountain,
Ices are melting down from mountain,
Butterflies – they also are flying away
I alone cannot catch and hold.

Jolly well we were painting our dreams and the wishes
Suddenly, in between where had you fled?
Our entire studio is now in a tantrum
Why have you left in between – leaving them half done?

A beautiful poem has come out of your grief...! I see before me the unfinished painting...! If you will, you can still complete it with a beautiful finish! For this, you deserve full marks!

This captures the sweet suffering of love lost and a broken heart. I love how you have used the analogy of unfinished, interrupted paintings with unfinished, interrupted love!

Truly heart-rending poem, Amitava. I feel the bewilderment in the voice of your poem, wanting to know where your wife had gone, and why she left the painting, half done. The two of you painting your wishes and dreams, and suddenly she's no longer there. Feel the pain of sorrow beneath this poem. Excellent poem, Amitava. Thank you for sharing it. RoseAnn

Well I have to agree with the others. So very beautiful and yet so heartbreaking! I hope you have been able or will soon be able to paint yourself a happily ended picture. So nicely written! : -)
