Haiti After The Tremors Poem by Ratan Bhattacharjee

Haiti After The Tremors

Rating: 5.0

All on a sudden
The earth cracked,
Things fell apart
And the centre cannot hold

Loud cries of children crashed in their head
Shrieks of old men all over the street
Women under the broken walls imprisoned
People rushed helter skelter
O! God, There was no place to hide

The wage of sin is death
But what sin did these people commit?
God was silent
After the tremor the whole country was silent
Those who used to speak aloud are all dead
and sleeping under the debris now...

yeh its very sad sometimes questions come to our mind why, why does God do this? why did he want to destroy Haiti? What wrong did the people do there? and many more questions. We have no answers -but only to succumb to his holy will. Therefore, we should see our today--see to it that we lead a good and exemplary life so that in future, if there ever exists another life then surely, we will have a rightful seat there. The good that we have done, will surely be rewarded, and if there does not exist another life-then at least we die peacefully thinking--I have no regrets-I DID MY BEST. -10 ANJALI

You have brought your feelings well into the poem. I can really get at your heart. We are all sorry for the lost lives. The wage of sin is death - I don't believe in this Bibilical view. Actually speaking, nobody is a sinner according to the Hindu view - 'Amrithasya Puthra' is the real address to humanity. Sinner and a non-sinner - this is only a relativistic view. Vivekananda would say - 'every sinner is a potential saint'. What does this mean? If the wage of sin is death, then, we are all sinners. We all have death. Then, let us not find a special sinner in the people of Haithi. Vyasa too is a sinner from this angle because he is no more now! Actually speaking, God has no hand in such calamities. This is only a Natural calamity happening within the reach of our senses and material plane. We can only stand and pray that such disasters should not happen to anybody. Our duty is not to seek answers for questions that have no definite answers but only to help the victims. I think that this is more human than anything else.

sad but true, innocence is trampled by forces - natural and political why innocence pays the price...fail to understand this mind-boggling question.
