Groundnuts Or Pepper? Poem by David Oluwatobi Akinola

Groundnuts Or Pepper?

Rating: 5.0

They visited at night
With 45s and semi’s in their hands
“Everybody lie down”, one of them voiced aloud
Only few have guts when they see guns
And in this room, everyone had none.
So they all bowed down to the visitors
With their faces, bellies and palms glued to the floor
They all lied down like they were ordered by God.

Inspired and controlled by dope,
With a furious macho voice,
One of the visitors again voiced aloud
“If you don’t want groundnuts* then give me the pepper*! ! ”

Groundnuts [slang]: bullets
Pepper [slang]: Money
