Grim Realities Poem by Dr John Celes

Grim Realities

You cannot build a nation strong
With love for fellowmen absent;
You cannot forge ahead in world
If corruption gross is present.

You cannot integrate the states
If love of neighbor is not there;
You cannot progress in all spheres
If you don’t care for poor welfare.

You cannot make a nation rich
If poor are poorer day by day;
You cannot pour the wealth in drains
If beggars live to die en way.

You cannot plan for cities smart
When farmers cannot make ends meet;
You cannot fly to mars and stars
When citizens have sores on feet.

You cannot make all things ‘high-tech’
And love your mother nature well;
You cannot copy world around
If matters within turn to hell.

You cannot harbor hate in heart
For citizens of all nations;
You cannot keep secular trends
By curbing freedom by sanctions.

You cannot wear a mask on face
And dubiously smile to all;
You cannot dream and win a race,
Or integrate by building wall.

You cannot make false promises
And cheat the people whom you rule;
You cannot be a leader good
By selfishness or be a mule.
