Grief Poem by Jeannette Heywood

Grief

Rating: 4.8

Grief yawns and swallows you whole.
Insomnia, heartache, regrets take their toll.

Subconscious repeatedly into past dips.
The present and future, memories eclipse.

Bitterness gurgles, brings a foul taste.
This is the hardest thing you've ever faced.

How did this happen? All seems surreal.
Numbness seeps in you no longer feel.

Devoid of emotion, catatonic you sit.
Concentration evades you, thoughts constantly flit.

Courage within you must grasp at your heart.
Love lost; move on; now grief must depart.

Yes this one is very personal. I do hope it helps people to realise that although they feel overwhelmed they must make the effort to move onwards.

Thank you. It was my intention to help people to move on from their debilitating grief.

I love the descriptive nature of your poems as well as nice rhyming. In this poem, you have described grief and its ill effects well. I felt good to see the poem end on a hopeful note.
