Green Means Go

the light only remains green
for a second, the hungry eye
fades to red soon enough and the
sauntering wanderers dare cross even
though warned to stay back
in safety between the white lines of oblivion
but i'm running even though
the sign blinks 'walk'
because overhead green
exacts revenge and one
car races off the line
and all i can think
is 'go'
