Granny Dearest Poem by Farina Afrin Malik

Granny Dearest

Rating: 4.0

Opaque white pearls
And yet they shone like diamonds
A dainty piece of jewelry
That is where it all began

At the dressing table she sat
Powder puff at the ready
First one cheek, then the next
A saintly face emerges

Long hair she began to braid
Black then silver strands
always forming a pattern
ever beautiful

Once ready,
glasses on her nose
she turns and smiles
A movie star!

Alas! where was the second earring?
In reply, she said
Haven’t you heard
It’s the trend nowadays

A giggle escaped my lips
for I knew, she had lost it
Just as I now, have lost her
Still, the memory will linger on.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I loved my Grandmother very dearly. She was my role model and my inspiration. In some ways, though she isn't with me anymore, she still is continuing to inspire me every day.

That is a lovely poem, I will be visiting my Grammy next week, it's been months since I've seen her.
