Government Poem by Edwina Reizer

Government

Rating: 5.0

People in the government,
They’ve got it all wrong.
They think they can change the world
And keep our country strong.
It’s not our job to police the world
On every single day.
It’s the government’s job to keep us strong
By helping to pave the way
And listen to its constituents,
Let them have their say.

Look to thy self and keep in mind
Others are looking too.
What they see is a military machine
Spreading like the flu,
A virulent virus that kills all in sight
That comes and destroys them
And everything in their sight.
How can any government
That preaches, “We are free”
Hide behind that motto
And kill those we see?

That don’t look like us
Or think like us
Or even want to be like us.
No, we cannot change that.
What we can change is a
Government that’s failed,
That’s in itself filled with corruption
And never should be hailed
As a government for the people
When what we’ve really got
Is a gang of crooked politicians
Preaching what they’re not.

Maybe government’s a bad idea.
It hasn’t really achieved
Any of the high ideals
Our founding fathers believed.
