Goodbye To The Friends Poem by Francis Duggan

Goodbye To The Friends

Goodbye to the friends that i knew in the past
For few things in life ever do seem to last
In my flights of fancy i see them again
I meet them in my walks back memory lane,
Farewell to my young friends from decades ago
Older in my memory they never did grow
I cannot imagine them as ageing and gray
As young in my memory they do seem to stay
The days of my youth with fondness i recall
When with my young friends in the park i played football
The years on me now are beginning to show
And the legs once energetic and lively are now tired and slow
And goodbye to the friends i have lost through the years
I remember them with fondness not nostalgic tears.
