Gone Forever Poem by Marilyn Shepperson

Gone Forever

Though we've been apart
For many a long day
It's been months since you held me
And said you loved me
Little did I know at the time
That this love was not to last
Still in the night, I see you toss and turn
In the throes of nightmarish memories
You call out my name
Yes, I hear you and wonder why
I can do nothing to ease your pain
I cannot help you, here beyond the grave
Would I, if I was still alive
I doubt it, for where my body lies
Is where you put me, before my time.
