Gone Poem by Charles Chaim Wax

Gone

Rating: 4.7

Fifty years, more than that,
I’ve known the man
Next door neighbor
And for thirty-six years
He worked two jobs
Conductor for the subway
And sporting goods salesman
Sixteen hours a day.
Always read the ny times on Sunday
Last six months
Not well
In and out of hospitals
Eighty-four going on eighty-five
Never made it.
I went in to see his wife of fifty-six years
Her eyes huge red crumpled sad
Seeing now
What she had never seen before.
