Going It Alone Poem by Rachel Slimm

Going It Alone

I see that this vast expanse is my fate
As my eyes raise above to the sky,
It stretches itself like a cruel black hole,
I feel panic - unable to fly.

Its emptiness calls, I've no power to ignore,
I am taking the path of my 'choice',
I knew of its lonliness - still yet I chose
With a fearful and questioning voice;

'Show me what I must do and please show me how,
My desire is to do what is right.'
The answer to 'what' came across with no doubt
But not 'how' - hence this void in my sight.

As I fly off alone for my future I fear
In these darkened grey skies I must roam,
Though below is a view that fills me with heart:
Friends just longing for me to come home!
