God's Kind Of Poetry ….. [sept.2014 Challenge Poem; God & Man; Serious; Personal; A Little Long]

Rating: 3.3

ME:

'In the church of my Youth there was a 'Triune God':
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost a mystery was, but Father was the Creator; so was the buzz.
The Son/Jesus was crucified; at my church 'Communion', He was the 'host'.

Nowadays God's a big question mark for Bri Edwards; that's 'me'.
I believed in Him once, but now I feel He might OR might not be.
I'll write this, a little tongue-in-cheek, as though in Him I still believe.
He may be omni-this and omni-that, and for me I'm sure He will grieve.

GOD (the Father) :

'To my main man Moses I once gave ten rules for Man to follow.
Now (more than they were years ago) , to many Earthlings, my rules are hollow.
My idea to send my Son (by a virgin) was too theatrical, now I see,
but the biggest mistake I ever made was to let Mankind's 'will' be 'free'.

Please believe Me when I say 'I meant no harm in any way! '
I should have killed Satan when I could, rather than just say 'Take a hike.'
I meant well; long ago I truly did. I had such hope for Adam and Eve.
The mess their kids have made of Earth makes Me now wish to take My leave.

So many of you no longer, or never did, in God the Father trust.
I'd start over once again, but I'm too old; like an iron nail I've turned to rust.

As for my other rules, which were ten, I don't even remember all of them.
Men AND women take My Name in vain. The Sabbath's not my wished-for gem.
Kids dishonor their parents and vice versa. You covet neighbor's wives, and worse.
You kill for greed and just for fun. You steal from private and public purse.

I've had better luck on other worlds. I guess I let humans' brains get too BIG.
I should have stopped Evolution's 'progress' ….. when the 'top dog' was a PIG.'

ME:

'I too, for God the Father, do grieve. He did His best; that I DO believe.
He was Kind, Mighty, Smart and Such, but He tried to handle just too damn much.'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
[[i'm adding a note: this portion enclosed in brackets/parentheses is an explanation of my poem. i wrote it for Kanav Justa, who asked me for an explanation. he wrote one with the same title, for the 'Challenge' in Sept,2014; i voted for his poem.
THE POEM: (WITH EXPLANATIONS)

ME: [this IS ME, THE AUTHOR/UNBELIEVER SPEAKING]

'In the church of my Youth there was a 'Triune God':
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost a mystery was, but Father was the Creator; so was the buzz. ['BUZZ' = 'RUMOR'; THINGS SAID]
The Son/Jesus was crucified; at my church 'Communion', He was the 'host'.
[[ in THE FIRST STANZA I AM EXPLAINING SOME OF WHAT I WAS TAUGHT AS A BOY/YOUNG MAN IN CHURCH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL ON SUNDAYS. the 'HOST' HERE REFERS TO A SMALL PIECE OF BREAD SERVED TO CHURCH MEMBERS WHO PARTOOK OF 'COMMUNION' (A CEREMONY REMEMBERING JESUS' DEATH AND RESURRECTION; you CAN DO MORE RESEARCH IF YOU WANT TO) . ]]

[[ in church we were taught that God was omnipotent/all-powerful, and omniscient/all-knowing, and omnipresent/present everywhere ]] [[ a 'little tongue-in-cheek' means some of what i say i don't really believe, and i may be trying to poke a little fun at something(s) ]]

GOD (the Father) : [God's is 'speaking' now in this poem.]

'To my main man Moses I once gave ten rules for Man to follow.
Now (more than they were years ago) , to many Earthlings, my rules are hollow.
[Moses was the biblical leader of the Jews in the 'old testament'/older half of the bible. God supposedly gave to Moses a set of rules for the Jews to follow: the 'ten commandments'. you can do the research, Kanav, if you need to. God is saying that many humans don't believe and/or don't follow the 'rules' of living a godly life.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
My idea to send my Son (by a virgin) was too theatrical, now I see,
['Mary, the 'mother of God/Jesus', supposedly gave birth to the 'Son of God' even though she did not have sex with her husband, Joseph.]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
but the biggest mistake I ever made was to let Mankind's 'will' be 'free'.
[supposedly men and women have 'free will' to make their own decisions while on Earth. you can bet THAT has caused a lot of trouble! ! ! ]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Please believe Me when I say 'I meant no harm in any way! '
I should have killed Satan when I could, rather than just say 'Take a hike.'
[you can research Satan and all that]

I meant well; long ago I truly did. I had such hope for Adam and Eve.
The mess their kids have made of Earth makes Me now wish to take My leave.
[here i am imagining what a god might say after many years of watching his/her creations (in this case humans) make a mess often times with their actions. God is thinking He is too tired t keep watching. ]

I'd start over once again, but I'm too old; like an iron nail I've turned to rust.

Men AND women take My Name in vain. The Sabbath's not my wished-for gem.
Kids dishonor their parents and vice versa. You covet neighbor's wives, and worse.
You kill for greed and just for fun. You steal from private and public purse.
[research 'the ten commandments' and you will understand this, i hope. God is saying some of what Mankind has done against His rules. i try to remember to capitalize God and the pronouns referring to Him, since that is the way i learned to do it, i want it to be clear i am talking about the 'christian/jewish/muslim god', not some other god, and i don't want to turn off some believers more than i already do. :) :) ]

I've had better luck on other worlds. I guess I let humans' brains get too BIG.
[i'm imagining that Earth is not the only place where God has 'creations'.]

I should have stopped Evolution's 'progress' ….. when the 'top dog' was a PIG.'
[God is thinking, in my imagination, that in His works of Creation, which might have used 'Evolution' as a tool, he should have NOT made Mankind, but made the 'most 'successful' animal the pig and not men and women.]

my original poet's note:

ME:

'I too, for God the Father, do grieve. He did His best; that I DO believe.
He was Kind, Mighty, Smart and Such, but He tried to handle just too damn much.'
[again i am imagining and speaking 'tongue-in-cheek'.]this poem is the result of PH member Brian Johnston's CHALLENGE for September 2014. he has challenged members to write a poem of up to two pages with the title of(or at least a reference in the poem to) 'God's Kind Of Poetry'. if you would like to submit a similar poem, and if you wish to have it appear on Brian's poem page with other entries, ask him or me about it, OR just send it to brian in a message by the end of september. voting and/or commenting can be done now i think and through October 12th i think, but i suggest you wait at least until the deadline for submissions before voting. this is the third month of brian's challenge, which he hopes to make an ongoing monthly challenge.
my poem, in which both I ('ME') and GOD [['God the Father' of the Christian religion]] speak of the God/Man relationship is based partly on my personal experiences in life and on my imagination.
[[the belief in 'God (the Father) ', the 'Creator of Heaven and Earth' etc. etc. (according to the Lutheran church of my youth, when i WAS a believer) is also shared by Jews and i believe Muslims, and perhaps other religions]]

i mean no disrespect towards anyone else's religious beliefs. i consider myself an agnostic, and truly believe anything is possible, including what may seem impossible.

'communion' is a ceremony in some churches in which church members who qualify partake of a bit of bread (the 'host') and a bit of wine (or perhaps grape juice in some churches) . the host is either representative of the body of 'God the Son'/Jesus or, in some churches, as in 'mine', is said to actually be part of the 'body of Christ (Jesus) '. the wine has a similar status as the 'blood of Christ'. i hope i have remembered well what i learned many years ago.

'omni-this' and 'omni-that' refer to the stated Lutheran beliefs that God is omnipotent (all-powerful) and omniscient (all-knowing) .

THESE lines refer to some of the 10 'rules', also known as the Ten Commandments.:

'Men AND women take My Name in vain. The Sabbath's not my wished-for gem.
Kids dishonor their parents and vice versa. You covet neighbor's wives, and worse.
You kill for greed and just for fun. You steal from private and public purse.' THESE lines refer to some of the 10 'rules', also known as the Ten Commandments.

perhaps my advancing age has caused me to portray 'God' here as a worn out, frustrated god.

shalom, peace. bri :)

I am sure God is amused by thinking why on earth people are so engrossed in trying to figure out if I exist or not. Don't they have enough of their own problems.

A very interesting, enjoyable, and personal, poem. I'm sure He's getting tired of the mess we're making here, hopefully he doesn't give up on us. Good luck in the Challenge. Darla :)

God is the creator of heaven and earth. We may not see him thru our naked eyes like the wind we don't see but we can feel... God so love the world that He gave his only begotten son to save us from our sins.. God save me from the peak of death...Now i have this second gift of life.... Peace Sir Bri :)

Oh! This is nothing short of blasphemy! But as Eugine has rightly put it, even God will be greatly amused by this write and absolve Bri of the enormous sins he has hitherto committed and still does by way of greed (for ice creams and pastry) lust(?) and more than anything by his act of sacrilege as we see now in this poem and several other sacrilegious statements he has made in the past! Sure he is one of the Earthlings who is satanically trying to prove that God's rules are hollow! Spare this man from eternal fire! !

Yeah, man! If Jehovah, Elohim, Allah, or whoever has a sense of humor He'll (She'll?) say: That Bri done done it again- a funny, witty poem that don't tell it like it ain't! He's a cuss, probably went postal at the USPS, and has committed vast numbers of sins, though venial not mortal, mainly involving debauchery with women and ice cream (simultaneously!) - but I'll let him into heaven anyway- if for no other reason than HE AMUSES THE HELL (OOPS!) OUT OF ME! COME RIGHT IN SINNER- THERE'S COLD BEER IN THE FRIDGE!
